A newborn session is a very special and intimate session that should be scheduled prior to the baby’s birth. In order to get those special newborn images, sessions are done during the first 2 weeks of life. Expect your session to last 3-5 hours to allow a relaxed pace and ensuring you will get the most out of your experience. This provides plenty of time for feeding, changing, soothing and capturing those sweet, sleepy pictures. I am trained in newborn photography and take great care and safety when capturing your precious little ones in their first several days of life.
I only book one session per day in order to allow us to go at a relaxed pace and ensuring you will get the most out of your experience. Prior to your session, I will email you additional information detailing how to prepare for your session
Newborn sessions are for infants no more than two weeks old.
What do I need to prepare for the session?
Try to keep your newborn awake and stimulated an hour or so prior to our session so they will be ready to fall asleep when you arrive. Please feed your baby prior to your session so that they are full and able to fall asleep more quickly
. The best way to photograph your newborn is in nothing at all! Clothes can be awkward and bulky. I will supply all of the props, but if there is something special that you would like to incorporate into your session, you are always welcome to bring them with you. Bring an extra set of clothes just in case baby decides to have an accident while you’re holding them (without a diaper), although I will do the majority of the handling. I expect baby to have accidents on me and/or my props, so don’t worry…everything is washable!
Where will the session be held?
The session will be held in my home in Wylie, TX. I am able to control the light in my home and I have lots of props. My home will be very warm for your baby, so be sure to dress in layers. Newborns need to be very warm! To be able do the traditional newborn shots with them undressed, they need to be warm in and out of blankets. We will be overly warm, but they will be happy
When should I schedule my newborn session?
I take a very limited number of sessions each month, so please contact me ASAP with your due date. It is best to book your newborn session by your 6th month of pregnancy to make sure I am available when your little one arrives. It is best to photograph newborns with in the first 2 weeks of life – days 5-12 are usually the best for capturing newborns while they are still flexible enough to easily pose. Older babies tend to sleep less soundly and are more likely to be colicky or have newborn acne.
I will pencil in your due date on the calendar. Once your baby is born – call or email me and we will schedule your session within the first two weeks after birth. I prefer 5-10 days old simply because they are still usually very sleepy and are able to be put into the newborn style poses that everyone loves. After 12 days, babies tend to lose their womb-like characteristics and it becomes increasingly difficult to obtain those cute curled up sleeping positions because they are more alert and wake easier. Also, baby acne and colic tends to set in around that time. Sessions are usually scheduled Saturday & Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m., as most babies do best in the earlier hours of the day.
Anything else I should know?
I discourage bringing siblings to newborn sessions, but if you want to bring a sibling to incorporate a sibling portrait, please have a family member bring them only for a short period of time. In order to get best shots of your newborn, we need a quiet, calm atmosphere! We need a VERY calm, VERY sleepy baby! It is important for me to provide the very best images and that works best in a quiet, non-distracting environment. I am not a family photographer, but if asked I will try to accommodate a casual family portrait (or newborn and sibling portrait*), before baby is settled or after the newborn session is completed. (*Please add $50 per person if you request a casual family or sibling-newborn portrait).

POLICIES
$150 deposit is required at the time of booking to reserve your date and time and is non-refundable. Upon completion of your session, this deposit is applied to your total package cost. In the event of a 48 hour cancellation, this deposit may be applied towards a rescheduled session within 6 months.
8.25% sales tax is applicable for Texas residents
All orders must be paid in full at the time of placement. Due to the nature of custom products, all orders are non-refundable once payment is received.
